NOT "AGI"

Amodei's first move: refuse the hype-label, enumerate the capability. We do the same. We don't call it AGI. We call it powerful operator intelligence — an owned system that is compounding (every session leaves it sharper), sovereign (memory and orchestration on infrastructure you control), autonomous in loops (plans, acts, self-critiques, halts), and model-agnostic (the edge survives every frontier model swap). Every prediction below asks the marginal question — what does more of this buy the operator, and on what timescale — never the binary "can AI do X."

PERSISTENCE

Context that compounds indefinitely without ever centralizing. The operator's memory is the asset that appreciates while everything else depreciates.

BASE RATE The vault is git for cognition. Human expertise compounds over a 40-year career; version control made code memory permanent. Persistent machine memory does the same for judgment.

NOT AUTOMATIC Default-bad: platform memory — your context held in someone else's cloud, repriced or deleted at will. Persistence is sovereign or it is hostage.

SOVEREIGNTY

The operator's edge — IP, prompts, codebases, customer graph — must never be hostage to a platform that can reprice, deprecate, or lock them out.

BASE RATE Every prior platform era — app stores, social algorithms, ad networks — ended with the platform capturing the surplus the operator created. Owned IP is the exception that survives.

NOT AUTOMATIC Default-bad: model lock-in — convenience pulls every operator onto one provider's rails until switching means losing everything. Own the orchestration; keep the model swappable.

LINEAGE

Preservation. Agents, decisions, and work must survive the relentless churn of models and frameworks — or it isn't compounding, it's just a long session.

BASE RATE Biological genomes preserve 3.5 billion years of working solutions. Systems that keep their lineage compound; systems that overwrite it reset with every model generation.

NOT AUTOMATIC Default-bad: silent loss — each upgrade quietly orphans the last generation's work. Preservation is a first-class system, not an afterthought.

The virtual-researcher leap. Not a system that retrieves knowledge, but one that directs it — designs the inquiry, runs the synthesis, invents the method.

BASE RATE A handful of breakthroughs, made by tiny scrappy teams, drive most of a field's progress. They're parallelizable and under-resourced — the exact 'high returns to intelligence' profile.

NOT AUTOMATIC Default-bad: rented cognition — knowledge work happening inside someone else's model, where proprietary synthesis leaks back into the platform's training.

AUTONOMY

Operator-owned autonomous actors. The hardest pillar, deliberately last — it contains the question this whole roadmap is a bet on: does the operator edge survive AGI?

BASE RATE Amodei's comparative advantage: 'as long as AI is only better at 90% of a job, the other 10% leverages humans.' Our 10% is ownership, judgment, and context — the parts that live in no model's weights. Whether it survives a general AI is genuinely open.

NOT AUTOMATIC Default-bad: the operator as underclass — nominally owning a stack while the real value moved to platforms. 'Owned' must stay substantive, not ceremonial.

Intelligence is necessary but not sufficient — it is gated. Following Amodei, every prediction names the factor it must beat. A prediction that can't name its limiting factor isn't a prediction. It's a wish. We delete wishes.
